All emails received
through your email accounts hosted at CommerceStreet.com are scanned to identify
spam. This service can only cover email received through your domain mail
server. It cannot scan mail received through your ISP or other mail services.
(Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.)
How We Identify Spam
Email messages are scanned and evaluated as spam based on
criteria such as:
- The sender (if the sender can even be determined)
- The mail server(s) from which the message originated
(e.g., open relays and known sources of spam)
- The method of creation (by a person or a program)
- Key words and phrases in the subject and message body
- Domain names (URLs) contained in the email message.
CommerceStreet.com subscribes to a variety of services that provide us
databases of messages and URLs contained in spam email messages. Our databases
update throughout the day to block new spam messages as they appear.
Each email message is evaluated using a variety of tests. Each time an
email fails a test (indicating it may be spam) a value is added to it's numeric score. Various tests assign
various values depending on the accuracy and value of the test. The higher the score, the more
likely an email is spam.
What We Do With The Spam
| Spam!_ |
|
Email messages with a 100% score are considered
"confirmed" spam, and the subject line of the email message is marked
with "Spam!_". These messages can be diverted to a company wide abuse
mail box, to individual abuse mail boxes, or can be delivered through to
the intended recipient.
When diverted to a company wide abuse box, authorized personnel can
access that mail box and access diverted messages. When diverted to
individual abuse boxes, each individual can access their own abuse
account to access diverted messages.
|
| Spam?_ |
|
Email messages with an 80% to 99% score are
considered "suspected" spam, and the subject line of the email message
is marked with "Spam?_". These messages are normally delivered through
to the intended recipient. The intended recipient can set rules in their
mail program to move them to their Junk Mail fold. They should be
reviewed before being deleted.

What About False Positives
Legitimate email messages may sometimes be incorrectly identified as
spam. This is referred to as a "false positive”. Messages identified
as spam are never deleted. They are either diverted to an "abuse" mailbox (a
mailbox designated for spam) or flagged as spam and delivered to the intended
recipient. As you get more aggressive blocking spam, you get more "false
positives".
If False Positives occur, (1) we can adjust filters to allow legitimate
emails that should not be flagged and (2) you can “White List” senders as
necessary so their mail will not be diverted.
The Balancing Act Due to the nature of CommerceStreet.com’s business and the range of customers
we serve, we are not overly aggressive trying to screen out spam messages. We do not try to filter out all spam messages. We try to achieve a
balance of filtering the most spam messages possible without incurring False
Positives. Questions? Ready to Sign Up? Contact your
